Vetiver is a tropical grass that is native to Asia and can grow to a height of 4-8 feet. The essential oil is obtained from the roots of the plant, which are very strong and reach deep below the soil surface. Vetiver is often planted along steep hillsides that are vulnerable to soil erosion. Vetiver has been used as an insect repellant and as a food flavoring. In India and Sri Lanka it is also called the “oil of tranquility”.
